Horsegram, also known as Kullith in Marathi, is a native variety lentil that is abundant with protein. Horsegram is rich source of various nutrients such as polyphenols, flavanoids, antioxidants, iron, calcium etc and hence highly regarded in Ayurveda. Grown naturally in small villages of Maharashtra, it is considered to be the poor man’s superfood for its ability to fight malnutrition. It has a nutty, earthy taste and can be used instead of regular gram flour (besan) in Indian recipes.
